Surveillance monitoring of civil engineering structures.

In the current economic situation, the predictive maintenance of civil engineering structures and road bridges has become a priority. After months of operation and numerous maneuvers, the Jacques Chaban DELMAS bridge maintenance team in Bordeaux decided to equip the sensitive components of this bridge to prevent any anomalies.

The operation and maintenance of the structure are the responsibility of the company EIFFAGE ENERGIE SYSTÈMES - CLEMESSY Service. CLEMESSY specializes in the engineering and construction of industrial technical installations. The Chaban-Delmas bridge is a structure capable of lifting a lifting span of 2,750 tons to a height of 53 meters in 11 minutes allowing the passage of yachts, ferries or sailboats which dock at the port of Bordeaux. The lifting mechanism works on the principle of a giant elevator and requires the participation of a team of ten employees. From a control tower, two operators manage the maneuver while the rest of the team is spread over the various strategic points of the buttresses of the bridge. in addition to this, the team manages the maintenance of essential machines: motors, shafts, cables and pulleys.

The complexity of the bridge, the maneuvers it performs, as well as its strategic location for the city, make maintenance difficult and costly. For the overall quality of predictive maintenance, DEWESoft has proposed a solution that defies the constraints of its complex architecture.

The challenge: to define the best DAQ architecture for this instrumentation - some sensors being located at the top of the pylons for the monitoring of the main pulleys. Each side of the bridge has two pylons, and these pylons are 77 meters high.
